Thoughts think us - Eckhart Tolle
In Eckhart Tolle’s excellent session “Addiction to Suffering” he explained an idea with the phrase “Thoughts think us”, expressing the fact that when we are often completely identifying with our thoughts, not leaving space. So beautiful.

Re: Thoughts think us
I’ve seen some of Eckhart Tolle’s videos. He’s simply amazing.
.. always thinking, always worrying, too much with our thoughts. The minute we manage to take a step back we can see that things aren’t necessarily as bad as they seem.

Re: Thoughts think us
He also speaks about a certain connectedness he calls presence, the transformation and development out of disaster, and being conscious to “space”

Toll introduces the concept of “compulsive thinking” – we think/worry too much. No “space”.

“Look without analytical interference through the mind. That will bring the intelligence that will deal with the situation, whatever form that will take.”

In order for that to happen you must surrender to the moment. Even the slightest resistance will damage the ability to simply give attention and look.

When thoughts come try not to take them too seriously. “Your thoughts want to be taken seriously and pretend they matter absolutely”, though that’s true. “no thought matter absolutely or contain the absolute truth”.
